WECK containers ('Glaeser') made it all the way to Japan?! Who would have thought... My mum always used them and we would have an entire cupboard full of them, mostly presserved fruit. Lots of 'Apfelmus' (apple puree) which we would have with out potatoe pancakes... But are you not sometimes having trouble opening them?! :)

Yes, WECKs are here in Japan! I have no problem opening the bottle but closing with the metal part is a bit of trouble sometimes. Oh, I love potato pancake with apple puree!! I had it in the (Hungarian... I suppose) restaurant (was very unique) next to the South Kensington station. It was delicious! The plum wine will be delisious too!

homemade plum wine? my obaachan makes it at home. is it easy to make? what can i use instead of ume in england???? ume is different from plum isn'it? it's like a cross between plum and apricot?? those Weck containers are cool. when i read your bit on mugicha. i was already checking out the container. now i know and i want some too!!

Oooops! I thought UME was PLUM in english!! I should have said Ume / Japanese apricot. Sorry! It's so easy to make ume liquor (not plum wine!) but you need white liquor which is a cheap Sho-chu-. I wonder if you can get in England... I will put my recipe online soon. Actually, you can use plum instead of ume! Or any kind of fruit would be nice. Do you wanna use vodka instead? Check here!

Jun chan, I think your ume wine looks delicious! Oh and by the way I think I know that restaurant by Sth Ken station and I think its Polish. Its been there for years - my Mum also used to go there when she was my age when she visited the V&A. You can eat things like Pig Knuckles and stuff, right? Hmmm, the potatoe pancake w/ apple sauce sounds good to me. ANYWAY ... I look forward to sampling your wine this time next year ;)

Yes, the 'Daquise' restaurant. Heave plastic table cloths and payment at the till by the door. :) Must go there again sometime. Potato pancakes - wanted to make some for a long time now but never know what potatoes to buy - the floury kind yes, but how can you tell? Hmmm...' Kartoffel Puffer' !

It's important to buy the right kind of potatoes, isn't it? We have only a few different kinds of potatoes here in Tokyo. Easy.
