いや～、今のは本当に凄い雷だった～。10分くらい落ちっぱなし？本当は大っ嫌いな雷なんだけど、写真を撮るのに夢中になっていて意外に平気だったなー。夢中になったわりには迫力がイマイチの写真・・・。山手線は運転見合わせだそうです（6時58分のニュース）。

It has been lighting more than 10 mins. Crazy. I really hate thunder usually but I was concentrating of taking photographs and forgot about scare of it! It seems like the Yamanote line is not working (news @ 18:58)...

Apparently, the signal system was downed at the Yamanote Line for 3 hours by a thunderbolt. And the power failure occurred in many places in Tokyo from 6:00 - 8:55pm. Thunder also fell to the Diet Building (japanese parliament) and some part of the tower was damaged by the shock. The stone of a lump of 30cm square fell and scattered to the courtyard etc... and very sorry for a man who was struck and died... (news in japanese only)

That was definitely the scariest thunderstorm I've ever experienced! Within a few minutes, the street outside our office became a river with boxes floating down it and flooding the sidewalk. And the lightning didn't stop for ages. My colleague (whose hobby is observing the sky) said he'd never seen anything like it. He took lots of photographs as well...
