okinawa food: day 03
I had an unexpected reunion with Kibinago (banded blue sprat) @ a fish shop. It is a small fish (about 6cm long) but a silver line on the body is amazing. When I was a kid, I loved kibinago' sashimi which was prepared by hand and arranged nicely on a plate. Unfortunately, I don't see this fish in Tokyo. I didn't know that vietnamese fish sauce Nuoc Mam is made from kibinago.

We had a brown suger flavored Sata Andagi (doughnuts). It was still warm and delicious, not greasy at all.

It is good to drink coke when the belly hurts (C said it).

A very old sushi restaurant near the market. We were not brave enough to eat there. Maybe next time.

We found nice coffee store Cafe Okinawa Shiki by accident. I had Toro Coffee which is like turkish coffee. It was very rich in flavour. Carsten had Buku Buku Coffee with very smooth form on top. Thick and mild. We wanted to eat Ku-su Curry but they didn't serve any food. We bought Awamori Roasted Coffee for home.

For dinner, we went to izakaya GOYA-YA (goya is a vegetable). Goya Champuru with pork and kimuchi was delicious, very bitter but we got used to it very quickly. I had tenpura of Kibinago because they didn't have sashimi. no! Awamori for tonight was aged Shigure (meams drizzling rain), 43°C. It was quite a unique mellow smooth taste!

We tried only the food which looks good! We couldn't try any pork' parts or colorful fish. I felt bit sorry when I read through the menu for Carsten. There were many dishes I couldn't (didn't want to) explain to him!

Carsten wrote:
Eh!? Don't worry about explaining those dishes to me - hearing about them is much more entertaining than eating them. But thanks for always taking time translating the menu! Without your help I would have had to survive on Onigiri and sandwiches.

I can't even order sadwiches in Germany so よろしくね when we are in Germany next time.

Hi Yuki! Welcome to LDK! We really enjoyed our time in Okinawa last year. Okinawa is such a beautiful place. I hope it will be the same forever. Do you still live in Okinawa? Which season is the best time to visit? When we were there in last September, we had typhoon!! We want to camp in a small beautiful island next time...
