We went to a German pub Bernd's bar in Roppongi. This pub was on the list of German restaurants/pubs I have to go in Tokyo. It was very genuine but.. it was a bit expensive for me! We didn't stay long and went to Ebisu. Good to be home!
D stickers on the stairs were welcoming us to the bar. Mainly office workers were there, and they seem to speak German. The waitress was German too (and Mr Bernd, of course). I felt stupid to use English... Does she understand Japanese? Anyway I let C to order everything in German. Mercedes, Lufthansa, there were lots of German thing. I saw Mika Hakkinen' autograph when he became a world champion with McLaren in 98 (I♥F1). I enjoyed Jever Pilsener but not sure about paying ¥1000 for a pint of beer. ¥800 for flammkuchen (tarte flambee) and ¥1,500 for currywurst. Well, Japanese restaurants in London will be the same though. It was very friendly atmosnphere.
Yes, what a rip-off! But it was fun anyway because that place is REALLY genuine: interior, customers, food, drinks, everything. I hadn't eaten Currywurst for years! I think I would go there a lot if it wasn't so expensive.
Just went there for the first time. It is very authentic indeed!
- Food and beer was plain and good
- Waitress took 10 minutes before having time to
take our orders (quite typical for German restaurant)
- I touched a bell hanging from the sealink and the owner furiously came and said if I did it again I have to pay a drink for all (looks like guests better be familiar with German tradition!)
The only thing untypical was the high price - but then that is what you need to pay for authenticity.
