I've been looking for a nice kettle since last Summer but none of the kettles strike my heart yet. We have been using a tiny milk pot to boil water more than a year. We used to have a
cordless electric one from Bodum in London. I drink only 2 cups of coffee these days but I used to drink 5-6 cups of tea a day, so that this quick heating kettle was very useful. But I'm looking for a normal kettle because there are no space for it in the kitchen, and I want to make
barley tea in a kettle in Summer.
I'll say hi to your old Bodum kettle next time I'm round our old flat! It still works! Quite good value!
I'm off to see Lost in Translation now, I'll give you a report. The reviews have been quite mixed, after the initial hype! I really want to see Tokyo though!
I don't always use a computer with the Japanese fonts set up on it. It looks really funny when I use the computer with out it. For example the conversation you had with Keiko looked like this:
JUN: ????????????????????????????
KEIKO: ???????????
JUN: ??????
Oh well it made me laugh!
Nx
?????????????
It's funny! It seems like we are stupid! Enjoy the film. Even if you don't like it, don't tell me anything bad! Have a nice Tokyo time!!
??????? Hi Nigel!
I saw "lost in translation" couple of weeks ago. Nicely shot with good soundtrack. Scarlett Johanssen's character is slightly autobiographical i think. Had some funny moments too. I saw "the last samurai" too! it was definitely entertaining. amazing fighting scenes. I agree with you about the dodgy ending. Also, could have done without the "SAKE! SAKE!" scene of Tom Cruise...

sorry didn't mean to put in twice.
Sake! Saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaakeeeeeeeeeee!
????????????????????????????????????
Yes, that 'Saaakeee!' part was silly! I'm happy that Ken Watanabe (ワタナービって呼ばれてた?)
nominated for Academy Award in the supporting actor categories!
??????!
Well you've made me want to see the last samurai, just to find out what you're talking about!
Lost in Translation was kind of nice, but I don't think I got much of an insight into Tokyo! We learnt that there are lots of neon lights, strange game shows, karaoke and arcade games! I knew that!
There is one bit when Scarlett Johnson wanders around a video game arcade, I've never seen games like that. There was one that you interfaced by playing a guitar! I wonder how many people use that! I want to see the machines that download stuff into your mobile too!
N???
Yeah, actually people playing a guitar, here and there! This game is called 'Guitar Freaks' and he is also a guitar freak but a little bit different...
Ha Ha, and one with drums too!
Can you play the game if you don't know how to play a guitar?
I'd like to have a go, but I think I'd be really embarassed!!
No-one here ever wants to go bowling anymore! BOO!
Hey Jun,
If you're experiencing perfect-kettle-quest angst (which I know very well, living in UK Argos-land), skip that route entirely and go on a perfect-coffeemaker-quest instead. Sara, who works with me in my studio, is Belgian and therefore a coffee connoisseur: we have one of these in our studio and she just got me one for home, too. Behold, the Moka Express:

You won't go back to filters after this baby! Not only do you get that classic little mustache guy etched on the side but you'll still be keepin' it stove-top, for real. Can't lose!
Here's a nice essay about the Moka Express from both socialogical and design-history angles, to help you aesthetically justify your purchase!

But if you still need a kettle, how can Yanagi's possibly ever not look good?!
Sorry: double post, but I figured out your HTML formatting option!

Nigel, play a guitar for me when you are in Tokyo! And after that we go to bowling!!
Jamesu, we used to make coffee only with Moka Express (not by BIALETT though) in London. But we started to drink filtered coffee in Japan... Maybe the climate changes our taste bud?
Hmm, interesting on the switch to filter once in Tokyo, Jun. But I can definitely see a kind of logic in espresso being for London, and filter for Tokyo. I switch drinking habits depending on where I am, even if it's subtle like keeping the same beverage, just changing the brewing method.
But get the Yanagi at least! Or again, we could do the camera deal: buy the Yanagi, pop it into a padded envelope etc. etc. I never received my T-1? Royal Mail, huh? Those guys...
