icing cake
I think the most popular birthday cake for kids in Japan is strawberry shortcake (sponge cake with cream and strawberry filling and strawberries on top!). In London, sugar icing cake is probably the popular one. I was amazed when I saw a Barbie printed with icing for the first time! I heard that inside of the sugar icing is fruit cake and that the icing outside keeps the cake for a long time, so it's not only for decoration. I never tried it and I haven't even seen anyone eating it, but supermarkets sell so many kinds of icing cakes, so I think they are very very popular. But I prefer cakes with lots of cream. Come to think of it, I remember a celebration scene from the film Godfather, there was a big sugar icing cake. Don Vito Corleone didn't want to eat it though.

Hi Jun! I think Mr.C or Mr.K and i had a Thunderbirds one once! I think I had the caterpillar one when I was baby-sitting. Those cakes have really strange icing that's a cross between marzipan and icing. It's usually just sponge and some cream and jam in those. It's usually wedding and christmas cakes that have fruit cake with the hard icing. The cartoon cakes are a bit gross, really just for kids, so sweet!! Hurray I'm not going to be nigel(britishmuseum) for 2 weeks!! HA HA!

I think I know the texture of icing. Isn't it bit similar if we flatten Bertie Bassett? Just a little bit? I hope you will still comment my entry for next 2 weeks!

I will if I can use your computer! I hope I can take part in some important LDK research too! Good quality icing goes hard, so that's a bit too crunchy for Bertie Bassett. But cheap icing, and the kind on buns is a bit like the coloured bit in Liquirice Allsorts. The hard kind of icing can keep for ages, but the cheap stuff would just go mouldy. I think it has lots of egg in it!
