ブログのタイトルに使っているLDK。ご想像通り、「リビング・ダイニング・キッチン」の意味なのですが、ドイツでビックリしました。旦那の実家があるエリアでは、どの車もナンバープレートがLDK！というのも Lahn Dill Kreis の略で「Lahn川、Dill川地区」という意味だそうです。いや～、奇遇。

As you might know already, the meaning of my blog's name LDK is 'Living-Dining-Kitchen'. This is probably a Japanese-English word. When I was in Germany last month, I was very surprised to see the car's number plates. Almost all plates said LDK! The district where C's parents live called LDK which is stands for Lahn-Dill-Kreis, means 'Lahn River, Dill River District'. What a coincidence!

間取りを説明する時にLDKを使うのは日本だけですよね、きっと？それに気が付いたのはロンドンで生活を始めた時でした。例えば2LDKをロンドン式で説明すると「寝室2つに広いダイニングキッチンラウンジ付き」ですかね。でもLとDとKが同じ部屋って、あまり見た事がないです。更に寝室サイズも小さいとか大きいとかの説明が付く事もありますが、それってちゃんとしたキマリがあるのかどうか。日本の様に畳の数か平米数で言ってもらわないと、分かりにくいですけどね。

In Japan, if we say 2LDK, it means the flat/house has 2 bedrooms and LDK (a Living room as well as Dining room and Kitchen). The London style would be '2 bedroom flat with a spacious kitchen diner lounge'. Well, I haven't seen many kitchen diner lounge rooms in London though. And there is also the size description for the bedroom in English, like 'large' or 'small'. But I wonder if there are any rules for that? In Japan, we use tatami mat to measure rooms.

Hi Jun! The Olympic Flame came through Brixton today! It seems like quite a long time since it went down your street in Japan! Mind you it's a long way. Rachel said she saw lots of Brixton school children dressed as Olympic Flames. She saw Frank Bruno too and thought he was going to carry the flame!!!
