bassett's liquorice allsorts
A friend from London is staying with us. We asked him to bring Bertie Bassett's Liquorice Allsorts. I was scared to eat this sweets for a long long time, and I finally tried them a while ago. They were not that bad. As I wrote before, almost all Japanese people can't handle this flavour. I hated it too. It was about 10 years ago when I first realised that licorice is very popular in Europe. I thought that Eupopean people have a crazy taste bud. And now, I'm starting to understand their sense of taste, which some Japanese might call 'bad taste'! I tried to build Harry, Bassett's character, but gave up after making the legs. I guess I need some glue or sticks. Oops, I put the pink & black candy on the wrong side.

I just noticed a minor change of Harry. He used to look like this. His tummy colour changed. And this is a very early version.

Hi Jun I thought that character was called Bertie? The one eyed version is really scarey, a liquirice cyclops!! Nx

Oh! I thought that Bertie is a name of the founder. But it was George Bassett (it said on the official site)! I don't know where I read that the character's name is Harry...

You shold try Amarelli's liquorice: I think it's great, but all my Japanese friends think it's disgusting! That liqorice is considered the best all over the world (or better, we Italians think it's the best, and its quality is very high), and the packaging is cool. Compared to Bassett's liquorice, it's stonger and much more bitter. If you have the chance, you should try one, but I don't know where you can buy it in Japan. This is the URL: http://eng.liquirizia.it/

haha, yuck, licorice (or "drop" as dutch people would call it) is the national candy here in NL. i can't stand it and i just totally cringe when someone comes round for tea and bring a packet of drop for snacks. must be one of those european flavours that my tastebuds don't understand.

Hi andrea, welcome to LDK! Thank you for the information. I had a look at the site of AMARELLI. They look very classy and great, and I realised that I've tried this before in London! I bought it because I liked the tin very much. I still have it somewhere. But the taste was... Sorry! It was very 'grown up' taste ;-) Hi yasumina, if I live in somewhere in Europe, I will be also disappointed to have liquorice as a coffee snack. It has to be something like chocolate or biscuit, Isn't it?!
