nutella
This Nutella jar can be used as a drinking glass. Our friend brought it from London about five months ago. It comes with a plastic lid, so I like to use it as a container, not as a drinking glass. It's a good size to keep red ginger, and the jar shape is actually very nice. I wanted more Nutella jars, so I asked my friend who came from London last month. Sometimes the jars have some patterns or cartoon characters on them, but I didn't know that Doraemon, a Japanese anime character, was on Italian jars! These days Nutella can be found in local supermarkets in Japan because it is imported and sold by the big Japanese company Kewpie, but I haven't seen this nice glass version yet. I hope they start to import this type, too.

I think I first had Nutella in Paris when I was 18 years old. I had Nutella in a crepe. Until then, I knew only Harajuku style crepe which is filled with whipped cream and fruit. But the crepe I ate in Paris had only Nutella inside. I was even more surprised to see my sister's crepe: it had just sugar and lemon juice! How simple they were! It was a big culture shock for us.

I love Nutella, and used to eat it a lot when I was a kid. I had no idea you could get in Japan, I'd never seen it (but then again, I do most of my groceries at Hanamasa). I'll have to go to Seiyu or something and get some.

Our Nutella is almost empty! Do you go to Niku no Hanamasa? I want to go there one day. I like the wholesale atmosphere!

Yeah, Niku no Hanamasa. There's one right by where I live.

Hi Jun, hi Carsten, I also saw that Nutella-Doraemon connection when I was in Italy last year. Somehow it felt like a good match: Panini, Nutella and Kinder Chokoreto (with Doraemon toys inside Kinder surprise); Italy and Japan... I blogged about it here.

Hi Roger, nice to see you around these parts, it's been a while! I also haven't come across Doraemon Nutella outside the web, but reading your entry brought back memories of the brown/white swirly mix version. I wonder if they still exist, in a camping site supermarket in the Italian countryside maybe?

Roger wrote:
They still exist but not under the Nutella brand. The italian-born wife of my brother brought me some. I for myself was looking for the brown/white mix in several supermarkets in San Vincenzo, but somehow I didn't have success. It was kind of odd though, it was like they did have it just some days ago, but not when I came in... Anyway, it's a pleasure to reconnect since July 03. I am still in moblogging, moblogging as you see. You? Still with Sony? Would love to meet again. All the best to you and Jun. Hope to make it to Japan again.
