「クリスマス時期になると街には巨大クリスマスツリーが飾られるのはもちろん、スーパーマーケットもレンタルビデオショップの店員もピザ屋の宅配人もサンタクロースの格好になるし、ケーキ屋さんでは
ブッシュ・ド・ノエルや
クリスマスらしい飾り付きのクリスマスケーキが売られ、七面鳥も買えない事は無いもののあまり主流ではないので代わりにチキンを食べて、子供や恋人にクリスマスプレゼントを送ったりするかな」なんて言うと「同じなんだ！」と言われますけど、同じじゃないのは確かです。家族に電話しようなんて思わないもんな。もちろん日本にもキリスト教信者の方はいらっしゃいますけど、一般的には飲んだり食べたりするだけのイベントのような。我が家もコテコテのクリスマスケーキを買おうとしたもののサイズも値段も2人暮らしには合わないので諦めました。
There is a full-on Christmas atmosphere in Japan, but we don't celebrate, we just enjoy the event! There are amazing big Christmas trees everywhere in the city, shop assistants at supermarkets or rental video shops wear Santa Claus outfits, cake shops sell Christmas cakes, like
Buche de Noël or cakes with lots of
Christmasy decoration. Turkey is not very popular meat in Japan (although we can buy it at some shops), we eat chicken instead. We buy presents for kids or partners. It all sounds similar to other countries but I guess it's not. I don't consider making a phone call to my family. Of course there are many Japanese Christians too, but in general, we just enjoy eating and drinking. Today, we were going to buy a Christmas cake, but the size and the price was too much for two of us.
