sweets for presents
Last week I gave up buying macaroons as gifts, so I chose KIHACHI (in Japanese) to buy some kind of biscuits. At the cake shop, I asked the assistant which cake will last long, and she said 'what we have here all should be consumed within 10 days'. Well, it wasn't really true though! I was bit annoyed by her, but I couldn't resist not buying 'green tea dacquoise' , which has a really good reputation. We tasted them, and C said it was very good. I think it was nice but the butter cream was bit too heavy for me. If someone gives me this, I will be happy to eat it, but I don't know if I buy it again for myself!

There are tons of cake shops in Tokyo, I took too long to decide which cakes to buy! In the end, I chose other 'green tea dacquoise' , which last for 3 weeks, from tea-tsu (in Japanese), and some cookies from Gramercy New York which is a Japaese cake shop owned by Japanese flour company called Marushin Seifun (in Japanese). I'm sure that some people believe that their main store is in New York!

After all shopping, very colourful macaroons at Henri Charpentie (in Japanese) caught my attention (I suppressed an urge to buy). I checked their cakes and I saw petti ta petti. There are many cute petit cakes in a box, a nice package design, and it last for 14 days! Why I didn't come here first! Their fresh cakes look amazing and very French, but this shop is also 100% Japanese.

I think you didn't try any French influenced Japanese fresh cakes in Tokyo last time. We have to go to the basement of department stores. There will be a food heaven!

YES!! Nigel, you must try the "DEPACHIKA" or the department store basement! As Jun says it really is like you've died and gone to food heaven. I often day dream about going there when I'm in London.... sad, I know.

Oh Keiko! I totally understand that feeling! I used to have a dream of shopping in a Japanese supermarkets a lot! But I don't really go to DEPACHIKA often after I came back from London. Now I want to shop in TESCO or Sainsbury's (just once a week).
