While we were waiting for a bus to Shiretoko-Shari, we were watching
sakhalin trout swimming against the current to their breeding ground at Pereke River. We were very impressed!
After we arrived in Abashiri in the afternoon, we went to see
coral grass at Lake Notoro, it turns red only in September. My mother strongly recommended it, but I don't know if it was worth the ¥3,000 cab ride.
After that, we hitchhiked and got a lift with a young couple from Kyoto and we all went to
Abashiri Prison Museum. The wax dolls were quite amusing.
We had about three hours until our train departure, so we had food and drink at a Russian restaurant called Катюша. It was nice to meet the young Russian guy who worked at the restaurant and his Pelmeni were so good!
We had booked a
bed on the night train to Sapporo for ¥6,300. It was much cleaner and nicer than I expected. But the middle aged man who was sleeping opposite me was very noisy!
