In the morning of the third day of our trip, while C was having a hot spring bath (in Japanese), I packed my bags. Staying in a tent was quite a fun, I want to do it again. If we come back to this camp site, it might be nice to do BBQ with a nice ocean view. The nice young lady from the camp site gave us a lift to Utoro Onsen Terminal.

While we were waiting for a bus to Shiretoko-Shari, we were watching sakhalin trout swimming against the current to their breeding ground at Pereke River. We were very impressed!

After we arrived in Abashiri in the afternoon, we went to see coral grass at Lake Notoro, it turns red only in September. My mother strongly recommended it, but I don't know if it was worth the ¥3,000 cab ride.

After that, we hitchhiked and got a lift with a young couple from Kyoto and we all went to Abashiri Prison Museum. The wax dolls were quite amusing.

We had about three hours until our train departure, so we had food and drink at a Russian restaurant called Катюша. It was nice to meet the young Russian guy who worked at the restaurant and his Pelmeni were so good!

We had booked a bed on the night train to Sapporo for ¥6,300. It was much cleaner and nicer than I expected. But the middle aged man who was sleeping opposite me was very noisy!

Would like to visit the islands, next to Hokkaido, the four Russian Kurils islands. I read an article recently, about these islands. Do they have a ferry connection, from Hokkaido ? Do you need a VISA as a japanese ?
