oil filled radiator
This is the forth winter since we've come to Japan. We were always wondering if we should buy an oil filled radiator around this time of the year, and we finally bought one. Maybe it was because C caught a cold, the nice radiator from De'Longhi (which was a little bit over the budget) became a discontinued model and all other models are very ugly round shape, I found radiator from MUJI was quite reasonable price and it was also 10%OFF from the original price during 23 Nov - 4 Dec (need to be an internet member) and finally mum visits our place very soon. Come to think of it, when she stayed with us two years ago, I bought a hot carpet because she suggested me! All people who I know from the cold cities in Japan hate winter in Tokyo. They live in a perfectly warm house with central heating radiators. But not many people have them in Tokyo.

I was surprised that I have to carry 19kg of the radiator on my own to put legs and rolling casters, although it was very easy to put everything together. I don't really like the plastic casters, they look cheap and don't move smoothly, but I think this radiator is cheaper and much nicer than any other oil filled radiators. I also bought a towel hanger to hang a wet towel, it might humidify our room. I guess not much chance left to get a beautiful white humidifier from ±0.

By the way, Warm Biz campaign is encouraged to set a room temperature of 20°C, but the default temperature of this radiator was 22°C (changeable between 14 and 26°C). I thought Ryohin Keikaku Co.,Ltd. have approved of the Warm Biz campaign...

Hello J! T bought one of those oil filled radiators years ago in Myrdle Street and I had to lob it home from Argos, so I can sympathise with you. We are still using it in Issei's room as the regular radiator is missing a thermostat and gets so hot as to melt down everything around it. I like the slightly square-ish look of your radiator better though. But what is an electric carpet?!

Sorry, I meant 'hot carpet'.

yep. once purchased one of those delonghi myself, they are very good. i sold it on later but now wish i had kept it. an hot carpet does sound special - all you need now is an electric blanket ;-)

Hi D! As you imagine, a 'hot carpet' is an 'electric carpet'. The heating wire is in a carpet so it's quite hot to sit on directly. To avoid 'low temperature burns' we meant to put another carpet on it. And the carpet has to be suitable for a hot carpet. Does this sound weird, maybe? Hi Simone, I'm quite surprised to know that you also had one. I always thought that the flats in London are quite hot. I didn't like to make a room hot, but I had to do it just for getting enough hot water for flat mates! I laughed about 'electric blanket' when I read your comment, but it does exit! I didn't know that we can buy so many of them (rather ugly) in Japan too.

oh really i find london houses quite badly insulated, and I i like it warm, so i am kinda interested in the hot carpets, and hey what a great choice of electric blankets....

simone, to feel the warmth from a hot carpet, you need to sit down on it directly. It might be useless for your situation! chickpeaさん、レスが思いっきり遅れてしまいましたが、こんにちは。
