chocolat chaud
After I finished reading It Must've Been Something I Ate, I decided to make chocolat chaud (hot chocolate drink). The recipe in the book is based on a recipe the auther received from Pierre Hermé, so I was very excited. I used my favourite Lindt chocolate (70% cocoa, which was recommended by the book) and Dean & Deluca's cocoa powder from Holland, which I bought at a super sale.

As I was measuring the sugar, I realised it would become too sweet, but I obediently followed the recipe and... the chocolat chaud was super sweet! If I had used only half (or even less) of the sugar, it would been very tasty. When I added more hot milk to the chocolat chaud, I suddenly remembered a childhood memory. I secretly made very strong Milo when Mom was not in the kitchen. This chocolat chaud tasted like extra strong Milo!

Mmm, Milo's the best, Jun. It's the default chocolate drink in Australia and New Zealand. I didn't realise it's popular in Japan. Or is it? Maybe you were just a connoisseur as a child. Oddly enough, the Milo tins I buy in London come from Kenya. The malt taste of Milo (and the green tins) beats Nesquik any day, I say.

Here in New Zealand, they also have Milo chocolate bars. So good. I'm currently eating too many since I'm only here for 3 weeks.

Hi Jamesu, Milo is the default chocolate drink in Japan too, but we don't have Nesquik. The other day I saw Ribena in a Japanese market for the first time. It was selling as a healthy product for young ladies.

Hi nigel, I hope you are enjoying a boxing day. In Japan, today is a normal day and everybody is working, including C!
