morioka reimen
My sister brought me 'Morioka Reimen' (Morioka cold noodles) from Iwate prefecture. This dish came originally from Pyongyang in North Korea, but the noodles are made of wheat flour and starch instead of buckwheat flour. So the noodle colour is white and they're a little bit softer than Korean noodles. I had Morioka Reimen for the first time and I really enjoyed it, especially the chewy texture. The Morioka reimen on my picture is only half the portion, so it's hard to see where the noodles and soup are...

I tried two different brands of noodles by Pyon Pyon Sya (in Japanese) and Todakyu (in Japanese). The Pyon Pyon Sya's noodles are whitish and soft; Todakyu's noodles are yellowish and have a half dried texture. I enjoyed both brands, but if I had to choose one I would prefer Pyon Pyon Sya. Their little Kimuchi pickles bag also made me smile. It says 'KIMUCHI have a feeling of SALAD'. This is a typically bad Japanese - English direct translation, it's probably meant to say something like 'KIMUCHI can be just like SALAD'.
