It seems like floury potatoes are too popular in my neighbourhood. I hardly see waxy Mayqueen potatoes anywhere. I had to cycle to a greengrocer at the next station when I really needed some, and they had to go to the back of the store to get me some Mayqueen potatoes. They told me that they didn't display Mayqueen because nobody buys them. I wonder what kind of potatoes people use to make Japanese curry or Niku-jaga without Mayqueen! The other day, I found a new kind of potato called Cynthia (in Japanese) at our local supermarket. It's from France (grown in Japan) and it was quite good! It has a waxy texture and a slightly sweet flavour. I think Cynthia will be our new friend! We can finally make the German potato salad.

german potato salad... hmmm. My dad used to make it with lots of mayonnaise, but I am not that fond of that kind of potato salad. My bavarian friends potatoe salad however contained no mayonnaise at all, but lots of vinegar with lots of sugar in it (as the dressing) - とえもおいしいね。

yeah, I really like the bavarian style potato salad! おいしいよね!I used like the Japanese potato salad which is also with lots of mayonnaise, but now I think the vinegary German potato salad is the best one :-9

german potato salad...schwabisch, i think, does with onion and soup stock and just a bit of venegar maybe? or is it the same as bavarian one? it's interesting to have different kinds depending on the area.

Hello Jun, hello Kanae. Not sure about this, sounds quite similar. Will have to try this some time soon. Maybe for some picnic to come, as it is finally getting a little warmer here. Or maybe for when we watch Japan play in the world cup. P.salad, hot frankfurters and a beer maybe too. :) Maybe C or T can translate this? http://www.hausfrauenseite.de/index.shtml?http://www.hausfrauenseite.de/rezepte/salat/kartoffelsalate/schwabensalat.html

I made potato salad two days ago. I don't know the name, and actually I don't know if my potato salad is same as bavarian! But it's sounds same as kanae's potato salad. We've got a good recipe from C's aunt, but we lost it... so I used this recipe (in Japanese) instead. It was easy and quite good :-)
