I bought a roll of fabric from
Chikusen (in Japanese), an old established store in Nihonbashi, and I had my
yukata tailored. The salesman told me that the ultimate coolness in
Edo times was for women to wear fabric designed for men, and vise versa. I liked the idea and the women's fabric size is a little bit small for me anyway, so I chose my fabric from the men's section. I even chose the most masculine pattern, it shows a
fireman's standard. During Edo times, people in Kyoto didn't like this Tokyo-style bold design.
