new gadget
I went home to Sapporo in Hokkaido to spend Christmas and New Year's with my family. Because of the warm winter, it didn't snow much while I was there, but there was some old snow on the ground. I brought my ear warmers, but they were not necessary. So the weather was almost the same as in Tokyo, but I relied on this gadget. Do you know what it is?

This prevents you from slipping on snow or ice. At Tokyu Hands in Sapporo, I tried several different types and this one seemed fit my trainers best (I forgot the name of this product). It was about ¥1,700 for a pair. My sister got the similar one called koro-band (in Japanese). Local people in Hokkaido have shoes with non-slip soles, so I guess this gadget is only for tourists. It doesn't look great on shoes (it's best on black shoes), but I'm glad that I could walk safely (and stand straight) on snow and ice, and that I didn't fall. Unfortunately, the non-slip spikes make annoying sounds on the floor, so it's better to take them off once you enter a building. Don't forget to carry a plastic bag with you, this gadget gets completely wet from snow and ice.
