krispy kreme
I finally went to Krispy Kreme Doughnuts in Shinjuku. My plan was to have a cup of coffee and a doughnut, but when I got closer to the shop, I realised that it was impossible. There was a huge queue in front of the shop, even though it has been more than two months since the opening of the first Krispy Kreme in Japan. But the guard who was taking care of the queue told me that it didn't look too bad today, so I joined the queue.

After queueing for a while, a shop assistant came to us and explained that sets of twelve assorted doughnuts were available immediately and that we would have to stay in the queue for another half hour if we wanted custom orders. Of course I got the twelve doughnuts! So in the end my waiting time was only fifteen minutes in total. I've heard that waiting for an hour is quite normal, so I think it was not bad! I like this big box of doughnuts. I've known this size only from American cops in movies or TV shows!

I saw the queue! Veeeeery long. The box is very nice, it reminds me of Homer Simpson. I don't know much about doughnuts (I tasted one, from Doughnuts Plant, but... it's definetly not my food), so maybe I'm asking something obvious, but why is that brand so famous? And, by the way, do you know if they have not-fried-and-not-too-sweet options? I'd like to try a lighter version, but I'm not sure I will wait in line for hours to buy it.

Ah yes, Homer Simpson with doughnuts! I'm not a specialist, but I can say that Japanese Doughnut Plant was so disappointing. It was just greasy and sweet. Maybe it tastes different in NY though. I think Krispy Kreme Doughnuts is the sweetest food I ever had in my life, super shockingly sweet, but it was kind of nice (I wish if there is 'not-too-sweet option'). I haven't tried everything yet, but so far 'Original Glazed' is the best one, especially when it's microwaved for 8seconds. I guess Japanese people love to try something new, and don't mind queueing for "a little" for it (I'm definitely one of those people).

Ok, zannen but I think doughnuts are not for me. Thanks for the informations!

Krispy Kreme in America is not a big deal. Every little town as one. A queue for K.K ? Do you have a queue, for everything, in Japan ?

Hello Jun! 久し振りですね!I do love the packaging but not so much the donuts. Coated in sugar, sprinkly stuff etc, they are just way too sweet for me and only make me think of my next visit to the dentist. Recently however, Beard Papa's opened a branch close to work on Oxford Street and I am well into those vanilla cream puffs. Dangerous! A moment on the lips - a life time on the hips!

Hi jun chan! Before Krispy Kreme came to London I got Giblin's agent in NY to FedEx them to me! (aho yaro?!) But of course, they got stopped in customs and I didn't get them. Now Tescos even have Krispy Kreme. Original Glazed is definitely the best bet.

I don't understand... Krispy Kreme is the McDonald's of donoughs ! Keiko - in London you can eat better and healthier sweets !! From Pret A Manger or EAT, or for example upscale Napket caf? : www.napket.com The K.K. donoughs at Tesco are stale ( and greasy ) !!

I didn't know about Beard Papa's on Oxford St! It seems like different fillings are available there. We have only vanilla custard, occasionally chocolate. But I believe the original vanilla cream is the best one :-9

KEIKO, that's hilarious! I like it!! Testco

Hi M2, I know there are a lot of better sweets than krispy Kreme Doughnuts. But I don't always look for something good or healthy. And we don't queue for everything in Japan.

Hey M2, there's nothing much to understand really... When something new or different is on offer I think sometimes the curiousity gets the better of us. Krispy Kreme Donuts was a bit of a fad when it first appeared in the UK. Harrods food hall was the first place to sell them... now that says something about their marketing ploy. And sadly people like me fall for it! I know Krispy Kreme is by no means healthy or gourmet. They're donuts so what do you expect? Sometimes people do crave greasy junk food. And how can you resist when they come in such cool boxes? ;)
